valentines day So Apparently Theres This Thing Called Valentines Day...

…Where people are supposed to spend time with their loved ones, make and receive chocolate, confess their feelings under a snowy winter sky, and all sorts of other wonderfully rabu-rabu things. Except for the fact that where anime delivers, life generally fails.

That said, I doubt any of you would care to read a thousand word rant filled with teen angst and dating sim references (and for argument’s sake, you probably wouldn’t care to hear a minute-by-minute recount of my nonexistent date either), so I decided to do the only thing I could: turn this into a filler update post. Don’t worry, I have a good enough excuse for not tl;dr-ing about something useful, and if you want to know what it is, I suppose you’ll just have to read on.

In reality, actually, I don’t have much of an excuse at all. Or rather, my excuse is that I have so much going on in my head that I simply can’t decide what to write. And no, I’m not talking about real life: I actually have that many anime-related ideas to ramble about, but I just so happen to be in the middle of developing most of them. So in the meantime, here’s a little list of stuff that I’ve been thinking lately…

  • Fate/stay night is excellent. Even after playing Tsukihime I never truly classified myself as a TYPE-MOON fan, but the more I think about it, the more I realize just how good their stories are. I’m at the verge of concluding Fate route, and I’m extremely impressed by the amount of depth the characters seem to hold, especially Shirou.
  • Toradora and Clannad have continued to improve (as if they weren’t already good). If you haven’t picked them up yet, do so now. The fact that Clannad is moving away from the rabu-rabu stuff is making it even more engrossing than it was before, because it’s covering territory that is not only rarely seen in visual novels, but rarely seen in anime as a whole.
  • I’m planning on rewatching Honey and Clover, because it’s probably the greatest anime I’ve ever seen and I want to reconfirm my feelings toward it. I’m definitely going to write something about it, at some point, but I’m not even sure what yet. Either way, the show is good enough to entice some form of emotional reaction, and I have a habit (either good or bad) of writing whenever that happens.
  • Apparently the translators working on Kanon recently released a patch for Shiori’s route. Good news? I think so. I’ve still got F/SN to play and I’ll probably take on something more lighthearted after like Brass Restoration or Crescendo (is it even lighthearted?), but I’m definitely going to look forward to this. It goes without saying, but Shiori <3
  • I stumbled upon an interesting idea a few days ago after reading A Certain Magical Infamous KimiKiss post, but I’m not entirely sure yet how to develop the thought. But I’ll get to it, trust me. Hopefully.

Hmm…already 500 words? And this was supposed to be a filler post, too. But anyway, as you can see, I have a lot of things on the horizon that I can see myself writing (or rambling) about, but for now, I guess it would be best to simply enjoy the festivities. “Enjoy” and “Valentine’s Day” don’t exactly go hand in hand for me, but hey, I just got through watching an awesome set of episodes in Clannad and Toradora, and I’m off to start rewatching Honey and Clover tonight. I have nothing to complain about.

Feb 14 is meaningless for me too, although I’ve held a personal tradition for the past eleven years of buying an extra CD on that particular day to cheer myself up (this year it’s The End of the Beginning by God is and Astronaut, for those curious). My music collection celebrates its eleventh birthday today too! I did send a text message to someone earlier today wishing her happy Valentines’, and actually got a reply. Since I’m not bothered about getting cards and stuff I thought that was pretty cool, especially since we’ve been out of touch for a while. Overall it’s been a day to laze around the house, finish a blog post and do a bit of cleaning so I wouldn’t call it unproductive at all!

Back o/t Toradora! and Clannad have been impressing me a lot recently. The former is proving to have more depth than I ever dared hope, while the latter…I summed it up in the blog post I mentioned but suffice to say that by episode 10, it’s great.

I’m glad you’re enjoying F/S N – the VN is still pretty fresh in my memory, and I too have become really impressed with Type Moon’s storytelling. Tsukihime so far is a little less polished and complex but I’m enjoying it as well (I like vampire stories anyway). The Unlimited Blade Works route of F/S N goes into a lot more of Shirou’s character, which I think you’ll find to be really interesting; the Heaven’s Feel route took me completely by surprise. Very dark, very powerful and a complete surprise even if you’ve watched the TV show. Looking forward to a blog post from you about it. ^_^

Shhh, I’ve been in a relationship for years (married for 2, engaged 1, dating 2 more) and I don’t particularly enjoy Valentine’s Day. It’s like an imposed Christmas though not at all as fun.

I’m on UBW right now, and Shirou’s less annoying than he was in Fate. His character is the one thing that’s preventing me from fully immersing myself. I just can’t identify with him.

Like many others – I am alone on Valentine’s Day, not much that it matters since it never really felt special to me at all :P

On the F/SN issue, I’m basically finishing up UBW scenario making sure to save to get both Rin’s ending and Saber’s Ending :D It’s going to be intresting how Heaven’s Feel turns out given its been said to be a great deal darker than the other 2 routes.

I’ll do Tsukihime after that then likely wait til Kanon is finished completely before getting it since I abhor playing something part of the way and realizing I can’t do the entire game at that point.

I’ve been meaning to watch Honey and Clover again sometime, too. Alas, time is hard to find!

I think I would love Valentine’s Day as celebrated by Anime Japan, because I have a nasty weakness for chocolate, and any day where a guy gets free chocolate is totally worth a White Day in my book.

But it isn’t actually Valentine’s Day in my timezone anymore, alas. No choco. ;___;

Im playingthe Heavens Feel Route of FSN at the moment and so far the Unlimited Blade Works Route is my favorite.Nothing against the Fate Route but its rather uninteresting compared to the other 2.
