About

The Site

It was the summer of 2008, amidst the chaos of Code Geass R2 and the excitement that accompanies two months of holidays, when a certain starry-eyed male high-schooler with a bit too much time on his hands decided to start a blog. He had been learning a lot about anime throughout that year, and pushed along by one of his friends, he took what seemed like the next logical step and joined the blogosphere. As it turned out, it took him a while to figure out just what he wanted to do when he got there.

Now, for those of you who want a real About page and not a history lesson: this is Memories of Eternity, the anime blog of a would-be lit major, proud nerd, and all-around fan of anime and its related media. Think of it as a record of my journey through the doe-eyed school halls and war-torn space colonies of this wonderful subculture that we call home. Like all travelers, I seek enlightenment.

The Writer

There’s a lot that I could say about myself here, probably more than is appropriate for such a page. Thankfully, the existence of various internet profiles and accounts make it easier to introduce oneself, and I’ve gone through the trouble of documenting mine here.

That aside, I can sum things up by saying that I’m a diligent anime fan who takes the 2D world just a bit too seriously (incidentally, I’m an INTJ). As an aspiring student of and creator of the arts, anime and the mediums that surround it are intriguing to me in that they’re a unique form of creative expression. However, I’m also a fan of anime, so my approach is rarely objective and academic. In general, my goal is to learn as much about the medium and subculture as I can, and the best way to do that is to be a part of it – there’s nothing more fun than studying something that you love.

Frankly, though, it’s less of a study or a fleeting trend and more of a way of life for me, which is why I describe it as a journey seeking enlightenment. It’s like playing a good RPG – you don’t even realize that you’re leveling up because you’re having too much fun. Even I don’t know what kind of enlightenment I’ll find, but like Yuuta Takemoto’s four-leafed clover, I’m sure it exists somewhere.

And now for some things that I didn’t feel like fitting into a paragraph:

  • If it matters to you, I live in Toronto, Canada, and I’ve been going to Anime North since elementary school. It’s also the only local con that I attend.
  • My only semi-serious hobby outside of anime is gaming. I’m fairly proficient at most genres of games and my main focus is on rhythm, bullet hell, and 2D fighting, but I’m not actually “good” at any of them. I play a lot of Touhou, as you can imagine. I probably wouldn’t mind joining you for a game of whatever it is that you play.
  • While it’s true that I’m a typical moe/bishoujo fan, I also have a huge soft spot for good romance, as proven by the fact that my favourite anime is a josei (hint: I referenced it once in this About page). At their best, a good visual novel and a good shoujo manga would both have an equal effect on me.

The Style

As I mentioned above, my blog acts a record of my adventure through anime fandom. More specifically, it’s a record of the things that I learn and think about, including ideas that are half-complete and theories that are factually incorrect. As nice as it would be to be able to inform and educate my readers, I’m still in the process of informing and educating myself. Instead, I write posts to force myself to learn new things and to help develop my critical thinking skills as applied to anime. As a result, some of my posts might feel amateurish or incomplete, but if you read a post and wonder why I’m writing about something that I don’t understand, remember this: I’m writing about it because I don’t understand it.

Also, some miscellaneous notes:

  • Posts will contain spoilers. Unless otherwise stated, if a post is about a specific show, you can assume that I’ll spoil at least part of it within the post.
  • NSFW content: For the most part, the images on this blog should be safe, perhaps occasionally straying into Danbooru rating:q territory. However, a lot of useful websites like Danbooru and ErogameScape contain NSFW ads and it’s jarring to attach a warning to every link, so click with caution.
  • Blogroll: I’m stingy with it, I know. I consider my blogroll to be a list of blogs that I enjoy reading and that are worthy of your time. If you’re not on it, please don’t take it personally, but remember that I won’t accept any “link exchanges” either. I would much sooner put you in my feed reader than place you on my blogroll for the sake of mutually increasing traffic.
  • Categories: They’re messy, but I think they do their job. Between the categories, tags, and search bar, you should be able to find what you’re looking for. If not, just do a ctrl+f on the archives.
  • Comments: It might not feel like it at times, but I read every comment that I receive, and I skim all of my spam. However, due to my personal dislike of meaningless, obligatory replies that inflate posts’ comment counts, I don’t reply to every message. It can also take me several days to respond to messages simply because replying takes effort; sometimes as much effort as writing a new post. However, you shouldn’t feel obligated to leave detailed or thought-provoking feedback as I genuinely enjoy reading even the most casual one-liners.
  • Post Rate: Although this is an anime blog (as opposed to a personal blog), it’s still focused around my own experiences, so it’s subject to the whims of real life. There may be times when my post frequency drops for no apparent reason, but I’ll never leave for a significant amount of time without posting some sort of hiatus note. In general, you can always assume that I’ll be back.
